Educational background & Experience

Candace Murray is the creator of The Student For Life.  She is a General Psychology doctorate student, going into her fourth year with the program.  Her background consists of General Psychology, tests and measurements, supporting students of color, and Applied Behavior Analysis in various settings, including training shelter dogs new behaviors to incorporating the principles of behavior analysis into a corporate setting. 

Currently, she is a part of a research project team and a teaching assistant that exposes her to different specializations within the field of psychology, using quantitative methodology and approaches, and always learning something new that can be applied in a different setting.  Depending on the purpose and goal of the task, Candace has been able to use both quantitative and qualitative skillsets to assist in answering the research questions presented.

Candace's research interests and experience includes:

  • Underrepresented populations

  • Experiences

  • Case studies

  • Historically Black college and university, predominantly White academic institutions

  • Data collection and analysis

  • Performance indicator/metrics development

Candace is a Detroit native and recently relocated to Pittsburgh, PA.  She is a proud dog mom of a 7-year-old blue-nose pitbull named Jade.  Candace has interests in marine biology and geology, along with dance and art, Michigan State University football and basketball, and any and all things dog-related.

A goal Candace hopes to accomplish is to bring people of all academic levels, with multiple skillsets together to build new opportunities for themselves, their communities, and future scholars.  She hopes to begin hosting events within the Greater Pittsburgh area for networking, academic, and career development, and more.

  • Doctoral candidate (June 2020 - present) - Research focus: African American women attending predominantly White academic institutions, positive and negative experiences

  • Doctorate student (Began in May 2018 - In Progress) in General Psychology - Capella University beginning May 2018

  • M.S. (March 2018) in Applied Behavior Analysis - Capella University; Research on strength-based coaching and employee experience

  • B.S. (December 2015) in General Psychology with a focus in behavior analysis, minoring in geosciences - Western Michigan University
