The "supporting students of color in academia" event

I will be completely transparent and tell you, as a Black female in a predominantly White work and academic setting, I am not okay. Also, I still have no words for everything that has occurred during the first 6 months of 2020. I am just exhausted mentally and emotionally from everything going on. Being Black in Corporate America, academia, in America, in general, is exhausting.

But I wanted to speak on an event I'm hosting, via Zoom, that contributes to supporting students of color in academia, especially in White academia. The event is not only a webinar but a panel discussion, where we discuss topics on providing resources, tools, social support, and more. The goal is to use this event as an opportunity to have the difficult conversations, educating yourself, providing support, and making a difference in positively impacting the overall experiences of Black and brown people.

What the "Supporting Students of Color in Academia" event is:

• An event where we discuss many ways to support students of color in academic settings

• A platform to further educate those who may not be aware of the resources and tools available

What the "Supporting Students of Color in Academia" event is not:

• It is not a platform to spread ignorance, hate, bias, or prejudice

In the upcoming weeks, I plan on introducing the panel for the event that is taking place on June 25 at 7pm EST. Highlights of the panelists will be posted under The Student For Life's Instagram account so you're able to learn of the expertise of each panelist, and some tools and resources to take those next steps in truly being inclusive and supporting the minority population.
